Boxing- the art of two people combating themselves by throwing strategic and targeted punches at each other till either of them loses guard, giving way for the opponent to garner enough winning points, or is ultimately knocked out with the might of the opponent in one fist- is a phenomenal sport in sporting history. It is a sport so phenomenal that a mammoth crowd gathers, leaving all other activities behind, to watch their favorites fight for the belt or title.

The nights and days of training, perseverance, and dedication are displayed in the ring in the forms of blows, sweats, and strength. The crowd keeps on cheering and hoping their candidate wins by a margin or gives the knock-out blow. Of the all-time favorites in boxing history is Derrick James.

A United States former boxer born on the 23rd of January, 1992, Derrick James started his career as a boxer and won his first match on the 29th of September, 1992. Since then, James fought in the boxing ring for 16years and against Thirty (30) opponents, winning a total number of Twenty One (21) matches, losing Seven (7), drawing One (1), and having one (1) null match.

Derrick James retired from professional boxing as a middleweight in 2008 and started his career as a trainer with Errol Spence being his first trainee. As a trainer, the dedication with which he trained and fought as a boxer was what he built on in training the boxers under him leaving it as no surprise that his trainee, Errol Spence, is an Olympian and professional boxer at the moment. Derrick James’ story both as a professional boxer and trainer as well as his influence on Errol Spence, his trainee, is just an example of dedication, perseverance and adequate training put to play- for the love of the game of boxing; for those who love it; and for those who have always dreamt of winning.
